2014 Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County Zinfandel
In 1987, Ray and Nancy started the Elyse brand with 286 cases of Zinfandel from the Morisoli Vineyard , which is still a cornerstone vineyard source for the winery. After a decade of nomadic winemaking at various custom crush facilities, in 1997 they purchased a small winery and vineyard on Hoffman Lane, the home of Elyse Winery and tasting room. Since then, Elyse has blossomed into a portfolio of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah focused on pure expression of fruit. Continuing with my Napa adventures, see my previous Elyse post on Nov 1. Today I will discuss 3 of their wonderful Zin’s. I did not mention on my previous post, but Elyse wines are a Napa bargain as their quality wines are extremely reasonably priced, however I predict these reasonable prices will not last long!
Elyse Winery also have a couple of “Wine Clubs” and additionally offering some “Library Wines” which provide a tremendous insight on how their wines develop year to year. Elyse 2014 Korte Ranch Vineyard Napa Zinfandel
Korte Ranch located north of St. Helens along Napa River, having gnarly head trained vines, at least 70-years old, thriving there, and was a bonded winery before prohibition. Deep Ruby with aromas of black fruits and complex spice adding a bit of floral notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry with layers of spices, cinnamon and vanilla with slight citrus tone. Fine structured tannins, long finish on this full-bodied wine ending with fruit, oak and spice character. Should develop nicely over next 5+ years. Outstanding! Tasting Sample!
Elyse 2014 Morisoli Vineyard Napa Zinfandel
Morisoli Vineyard located in heart of Rutherford Ranch, a renowned Napa area. Deep Ruby with pronounced aromas of black fruits, floral and complex spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with vanilla and cedar with a creamy texture. Vivid acidity, well-structured ripe tannins, long finish on this full-bodied wine ending with fruit, oak and spice character. Should develop nicely over next 5+ years. Outstanding! Tasting Sample!
Elyse 2014 Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County Zinfandel
Teldeschi Vineyard, with some of the oldest vines planted from 1913 to 1919, located in heart of Dry Creek Valley AVA in Sonoma County. Deep Ruby with subtle aromas of black fruits, citrus and spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blueberry with citrus, black pepper and cacao notes. Lively acidity, tannins with a rustic edge, long finish, full-bodied wine ending with fruit and herb spice character. Should develop nicely over next 5+ years. Nice! Tasting Sample!
