Jamie Slone Wines Grenache 2016

In the Fall of 2018 I took a trip to Santa Barbara, CA to visit a few selective wineries and taste some of their current offerings, particularly the Rhone blends.  There were four of us tasting wines and my comments, on each of the wines tasted, incorporate nuances from everyone’s palate.  It was a great trip, the wines were outstanding and the folks I met at each of the wineries were extremely informative, helpful and very generous with their time.  The wineries have “Wine Clubs” which offer some tremendous, small production, wines that can only be obtained directly from the vineyard.  I recommend to try a “Club”, click this “WineClubLink” to go to their site.  I highly recommend a trip to Santa Barbara, you will not be disappointed!  Keep checking back with SippingFineWine.com for all of the wineries visited, wines tasted and comments regarding the wines, wineries and folks I met.

Jamie Slone Wines is a small producer of some fine wines from Santa Barbara County.  On my recent trip to CA, I met with both Jamie and Kym Slone at their cozy tasting room and learned about their wines and philosophy.  I event met their mascot Sophie who welcomed me with her tail wagging.  A 30-year around the world wine journey let Jamie and Kym to craft their own wines.  Jamie has a very interesting background in radio, real estate and car racing.  The Slone’s are focused on making exciting wines by carefully selecting vineyard sites that exhibit special and unique characteristics that will make wines of exceptional quality and flavor.  Since it was harvest time, I had the opportunity to taste some of the grapes just off the vines.  I was able to taste 7 of their wines, hopefully I will get back at some point to taste the rest.

A blend of 98% Grenache and 2% Mondeuse, aged for 10 months in neutral French oak.  Aromas of lively red fruits with enticing spice notes.  On the palate of this medium body wine, fresh strawberry and cherry flavors, savory with mineral spice.  Well balanced with fine soft tannins, lingering, ending with toasty oak notes.  Nice Grenache!  Tasting Sample!

Cheers!
