Louis Latour

Corton Domain Latour 2008 & Corton “Clos de la Vigne au Saint” Domaine Latour 2010

I recently went to a private wine tasting where Louis Latour’s Northeast Regional Manager, Andy Fruzzetti, opened TEN wines, 5 red and 5 white, as well as providing some awesome in depth commentary on the wines and winery. I will review these wines over the next several posts with some history and observations! Check out the March 31, 2017, April 4, 2017 & April 7, 2017 posts for additional pictures. I reviewed 8 wines, 2 to go, stay tuned!

Corton Domain Latour 2008

The grapes selected to produce this wine are located on the hill of Corton in south-easterly facing parcels: Clos du Roi, Les Bressandes, Les Grèves, Les Perrières. The vines are managed in the traditional way by the Louis Latour team which carries out strict pruning in order to produce later harvests thus insuring a good degree of maturity in the grapes. This wine is made up of grapes selected from several different parcels of vines in order to guarantee consistent quality each year. It has a good ageing potential.

Aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels (15% new). Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits and a touch of spice. On the palate, delicate fruit flavors of black cherry with cedar notes and wet herbs. Full round tannins, balanced acidity, lingering, ending with earthy mineral tones. Good value! Tasting Sample!

Corton “Clos de la Vigne au Saint” Domaine Latour 2010

Clos de la Vigne au Saint is a very old vineyard; the earliest known record of its existence is in 1375 when it is mentioned in the records of the Chapter of Saulieu. The Latour family have a long connection with this vineyard which began in the early 19th century when Louis Latour’s great great grandmother owned a section of the vineyard. Since then it has remained in family hands, passing from generation to generation. The vineyard has perfect southerly exposure on the Corton hill lying on a bedrock outcrop towards the bottom of the slope. The soil is a rusty red color and rich in marl which gives the wines distinct aromas.

Aged for about 12 months in French oak (35% new). Deep Ruby with rich warm aromas of ripe red fruit and sweet spice. On the palate, refined flavors of cherry and raspberry, with sweet vanilla, oak and pepper. Elegant tannins on a long lingering finish with a generous mineral notes on the ending. Very Nice, save a few for the cellar! Tasting Sample!

Cheers!
