Elyse Winery
2016 GlenLyon Vineyard Sonoma County Syrah;
2014 York Creek Vineyard Napa Petite Sirah
Continuing on with my Elyse Winery visit, see my November 1, 2019 review of their 2018 California Rose & 2015 Sonoma County Chardonnay and November 15, 2019 review of their 2014 Korte Ranch Vineyard Napa Zinfandel, 2014 Morisoli Vineyard Napa Zinfandel &2014 Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County Zinfandel together with some of its history. After thirty years of stewardship, Ray and Nancy decided that it was time to retire. What began as a casual conversation over dinner evolved into the next chapter for Elyse Winery. In October 2018, Ray and Nancy Coursen sold Elyse Winery to fellow Yountville locals, Josh Peeples, and his partner, Cheryl. Perfect timing for both parties, the torch has been passed to continue the same passion for the decades to come. In addition, Josh brings his other brands Addax, Standard Deviation, and Institution to the Elyse family of wines, perhaps I’ll try these on my next Napa trip.
Elyse Winery also have a couple of “Wine Clubs” and additionally offering some “Library Wines” which provide a tremendous insight on how their wines develop year to year. I recommend to check out their availability, click this link “WineClubLink” to go to their site and join a club! If you find your travels to Napa, I recommend a make an appointment to visit their Napa location and Sip their portfolio of Fine Wines.
Keep checking back with SippingFineWine.com as I recently made a trip to Napa during 2019 harvest, visited several wineries, tasted some great wines, and met some outstanding individuals. I’ll continue to report on my discoveries.
Elyse 2016 GlenLyon Vineyard Sonoma County Syrah
Deep Ruby with pronounced aromas of ripe black and red fruits with smoky, earthy & meaty notes. On the palate blackberry, currants and blueberry flavors with notes of baking spice, floral and sweet vanilla. Lively acidity with firm approachable tannins, well integrated, long finish ending with rich fruit, cacao and spice character. Very Nice!
Elyse 2014 York Creek Vineyard Napa Petite Sirah
Deep Ruby with dark purple edges and pronounced aromas of black and red fruits with blossom notes and meaty spice. On the palate blackberry and black plum flavors with notes of lavender, licorice and earthy tobacco. Vivid acidity with big firm tannins, well integrated and made to age, long finish ending with weighty fruit and spice character. Very Nice!
Cheers!
