Continuing with my Napa adventures, see my previous Heitz Cellars post on October 22, 2019. Today I will discuss 3 of their outstanding Cab’s. In April, 2018, Heitz Cellar entered an exciting new chapter as this rich legacy was passed into the hands of the Lawrence family, whose deep roots in agriculture and commitment to the same core values of fine winemaking made it a perfect match. The wines are made with an unwavering commitment to quality from organically farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit, and a commitment to the sustainability of Napa Valley.

Heitz Cellars also have a couple of “Wine Clubs” and additionally offering some “Library Wines” which provide a tremendous insight on how their wines develop year to year. I recommend to check out their availability, click this link “WineClubLink” to go to their site and join a club! A couple of years ago, Heitz shipped me 8 different vintages of their Trailside Cabernet. I held a vertical tasting which was enjoyable to see how the wine changed over a 10-year period. If you find your travels to Napa, I recommend a visit to their lovely Napa winery.

Keep checking back with SippingFineWine.com as I recently made a trip to Napa during 2019 harvest, visited several wineries, tasted some great wines, and met some outstanding individuals. I’ll continue to report on my discoveries. Below is a photo of your truly with Grant Gumm, Hetiz Hospitality manager.

2014 Linda Falls Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

First introduced in 2013, Linda Falls Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, from 7 acres on Howell Mountain where grapes were first planted in 2002. Aged for 3 years, 2 years in 100% new French oak and 1 year in neutral American oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits with bramble herb spice. On the palate, black cherry and blackberry flavors with currant, tobacco and herb leaf notes, has an underlying subtle sweetness. Full-body, fine juicy soft tannins, nicely integrated, balanced with acidity ending with earth, nutty character. Very Nice! Tasting Sample!

2013 Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

This vineyard has been part of the Heitz estate since 1984, one of their three single vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 4 years in 100% new French Limousin oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits with rustic spices. On the palate, raspberry, black cherry and blackberry flavors with vanilla, tobacco, tomato leaf and licorice notes. Full-body, fine soft tannins, long finish, nicely integrated, balanced with acidity ending with sweet earthy, nutty character. Very Nice! Tasting Sample!

2013 Marths’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

This vineyard has been part of the Heitz estate since 1966, when an agreement was made with Tom May to source fruit from May’s small Oakville Vineyard, one of their three single vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged first for a year in neutral oak, then aged for 3 years in 100% new French Limousin oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits and spice box with mint and eucalyptus notes. On the palate, currant and blackberry flavors with citrus, cinnamon and fig, well integrated, fresh acidity. Full-body, fine tight tannins, long finish, elegant, balanced ending with leather and earthy herb character. Let this age a bit! Outstanding! Tasting Sample!

Cheers!
