2017 MerSoleil Silver Chardonnay   2017 Emmolo Napa Merlot

2017 MerSoleil Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

In 1971 Charlie Wagner and his wife Lorna Belle Glos Wagner asked their son Charles (Chuck) Wagner, who had just graduated from high school, if he would be interested in joining them in starting up a winery. If Chuck declined the offer, Charlie and Lorna were planning to sell out of their ranch in Napa Valley and move to Australia. Chuck accepted his parents’ offer to launch the winery, Caymus Vineyards. The Wagners produced their first vintage in 1972, consisting of 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, Caymus has focused their efforts in the production of quality Wines.

Caymus Vineyards has a “Wine Shop” offering their exceptional wines directly from the winery. I recommend to check out their availability, click this link “WineShopLink” to go to their site and review their present selection! If you find your travels to Napa, I recommend a visit to their lovely Napa winery. Below is a view of some of their outdoor gardens where you can Sip and enjoy some of their Fine Wines.

Keep checking back with SippingFineWine.com as I recently made a trip to Napa during 2019 harvest, visited several wineries, tasted some great wines, and met some outstanding individuals. I’ll continue to report on my discoveries.

Caymus 2017 MerSoleil Silver Chardonnay

First, this wine was previously in a grey bottle, Why? Beginning with the 2017 vintage, the wine is in a clear bottle, which to me has a much better appeal, to see the wine! Fruit sourced from Monterey County, pale lemon-lime color with aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and slight biscuit notes. This wine is unoaked and fermented in stainless and concrete tanks. On the palate, crisp, with flavors of apple, melon and peach adding in some citrus zest. Balanced acidity, medium body and finish ending slightly on the creamy side. Drink young while its fresh! Tasting Sample!

Caymus 2017 MerSoleil Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

MerSoleil named after the two forces of nature – “the sea and sun.” Grapes sourced from vineyards in the southern and middle areas of Santa Lucia Highlands, deep Ruby with youthful aromas of red fruits and bits of smoky pepper spice. On the palate flavors of cranberry, raspberry and tart cherry with toasty pepper spice, savory, good mouthfeel. Medium+ finish, fine tannins well integrated ending with fruit and a toasty oak character. Tasting Sample!

Caymus 2017 Emmolo Napa Merlot

In 1923 Salvatore Emmolo immigrated from Sicily to Napa buying property and starting grapevine rootstock. Salvatore’s granddaughter Cheryl started the Emmolo label in 1994, now run by Jenny Wagner, Cheryl’s daughter. Grapes sourced from Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll district, deep Ruby with purple edges and aromas of black fruits, some oak and sweet spice. The palate yielded berry jam and fruit tastes with a touch of roasted espresso beans and a perfect amount of pungent, almost smoky spice, to a clean light oak and nutty finish on smooth, slightly gripping tannins. A real Gem! Tasting Sample!

Cheers!
