2017 Napa Sauvignon Blanc;          2014 Hall Ellie’s Cabernet Sauvignon

Kathryn Walt Hall is the proprietor of Hall Wines and has been involved in the California wine industry since her family first purchased a vineyard over thirty years ago. She has had a distinguished career as a successful businesswoman, community activist, and also named as the United States Ambassador to Austria. Kathryn Hall and her family have been grape growers in Mendocino County since 1972. The Walt family owns 63 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc in the Redwood Valley and has sold their grapes to such wineries as Fetzer, Parducci and Beringer. Kathryn managed the family vineyard from 1982 to 1992. During this time she produced Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon under the label Walt Vineyards. Continuing her family tradition, she maintains a strong emotional attachment to vineyards, wine and the wine country.

Craig Hall is chairman and founder of Dallas-based Hall Financial Group and along with his wife Kathryn, created a premier vineyard and winery company in the Napa Valley area. A life-long entrepreneur and investor, in addition to the vineyard and winery business, his professional interests today include real estate, venture capital, technology and hotels in the U.S. and Europe.

Hall Wines also have several “Wine Clubs” and additionally offering some “Library & Exclusive Wines” which provide a tremendous insight on how their wines develop year to year. I recommend to check out their availability, click this link “WineClubLink” to go to their site and join a club! If you find your travels to Napa, I recommend a visit to their stunning Napa winery.

Keep checking back with SippingFineWine.com as I recently made a trip to Napa during 2019 harvest, visited several wineries, tasted some great wines, and met some outstanding individuals. I’ll continue to report on my discoveries.

2017 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Pale lemon with fragrant aromas of tropical and citrus fruit with hints of garden spice. The palate shows fresh fruit flavors of peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and crisp apple, with the subtle biscuit and mineral tones from lees contact with no malolactic fermentation. The wine has lively acidity on a medium length finish ending with creamy tones. Good value! Very Nice! Tasting Sample!

2014 Hall Ellie’s Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

The wine is named for Craig Hall’s mother, Eleanor “Ellie” Hall, who was an artist and a teacher, and her artwork graces the wine’s label. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot, aged for 24 months in French oak (65% new), is a deep Ruby with big aromas of rich dark dried fruit with hints of floral and herb spices. An ideal summer with an early harvest, the palate shows black cherry and raspberry currant flavors with a sweet touch of licorice, spice, espresso beans and a bit of cacao as oak is beginning to integrate well in the wine. Fine structured tannins, complex yet enjoyable, will continue to age. Long finish ending with a touch of sweetness. Outstanding! Tasting Sample!

Cheers!
