Roald Wine Company GSM Blend 2016
Roald Wine Company was formed by Greg Nelson who has a real passion for wine and he was inspired by his father, Roald David Nelson, who was a guru in supply chain management. Greg Nelson, after receiving a PhD in Biology at UC San Diego, became interested in biology and the process of winemaking which brought him to Sonoma County where he worked at several wineries, including Ramey and Martinelli, before starting Roald Wine Company. Greg has an affinity for journeys, jazz and American novelist Jack Kerouac.
Roald has a “Wine Club” which offer some tremendous values on small production wines that can only be obtained directly from the vineyard. I recommend to try a “Club”, click this “WineClubLink” to go to their site. If you find your travels to Napa, send a note to Greg and arrange a visit to their cozy tasting room in Healdsburg. Keep checking back with SippingFineWine.com as I recently made a trip to Napa during the 2019 harvest, visited several wineries, tasted some great wines, and met some outstanding individuals. I’ll report on my discoveries.
Roald 2016 “GSM” wine is short for a blend of grapes, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Grapes were sources from Chalk Hill AVA as well as other California sites. Medium Ruby color of this lovely Rhône Blend with aromas of dark berry fruits, rustic spices and smoky notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry fruit with cacao, leather and earthy notes, wrapped in vivid acidity on nicely structured frame. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with a fruit and spice character. Drinks very nicely now! Good value! Tasting Sample!
Cheers!
