Quinta do Portal Douro Colheita Red 2012
Quinta do Portal is a family winemaking company that embraced with passion the “Boutique Winery” concept. They produce DOC Douro wines, Port Wines and Moscatel. Their wine making started in the early 90’s of the XX century, and its base was a centenary estate where the family has been producing Port since the last years of the XIX century. The family’s effort, passion and dedication have been recognized both at a national and international level during the course of the years.
The 2011 vintage earned a top spot on the Wine Spectators “Top 100 List”, let’s see how the 2012 does. The wine is comprised of Tinta Roriz (60%), Touriga Nacional (25%), Touriga Franca (15%) and aged for 9 months in French oak barrels. Pouring a glass, I noticed a deep dark red/purple color with aromas of red fruits with gentle spice. The palate shows cherries and black raspberries, light oak, lively acidity, mineral notes and big tannins and finishes with good length. Not the finesse of the 2011 vintage, but this wine was Enjoyable! My former colleague, Amandio, a native of Portugal, brought this gem back from a trip back home. Muito Grato!
Cheers!
