Bodegas Hermanos Pérez Pascuas Viña Pedrosa 2007 Reserva
Bodegas Hermanos Pérez Pascuas, a Pioneer in Ribera del Duero, began activities in 1980, when three brothers, Benjamín, Manuel and Adolfo Pérez Pascuas, convinced of the excellent potential that lay in the vineyards owned by their father, Mauro, decided to initiate an ambitious project, to make one of the best wines in Spain and to carve a niche for it in the international marketplace. This is a family cellar which has focused on quality from its very beginnings, with hard work and intense dedication. Currently, 500,000 bottles are produced yearly and this limited production allows for strict controls of the whole winemaking process from its very beginning. The vineyards are located in Pedrosa de Duero in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, a town with a winemaking tradition that spans over a hundred years. The terrain is smooth and the soils are chalky-clay, located at an altitude of 800m above sea level.
I had this bottle at one of my favorite Tapas Bars, Barcelona Wine Bar, which has several locations in Connecticut. The wine was an intense Ruby Red with deep edges. Aromas of black and red fruit, sweet spice with slight earthy notes. This wine is 90% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 24 months in oak casks and further 18 months in the bottle before release. The palate shows cherries and blackberries, with hints of toasty oak, cacao and vanilla spice. On the finish firm tannins, lively acidity and mineral notes give this wine tremendous complexity and balance. This wine needs a few more years of bottle aging before it will begin hitting its stride. You can keep this beauty for a decade and it will be great. A Treat!
Cheers!
